The Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, hosted an orientation programme for its new batch of interns on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The event welcomed Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Medical Laboratory Scientists, marking another step in the hospital’s commitment to fostering excellent patient care through professional development.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director, NDUTH, Prof. Johnbull Jumbo, warmly welcomed the interns, highlighting the hospital’s core values of research and continuous training for medical personnel.
He urged the interns to adhere to proper dressing, maintain good conduct, and dedicate themselves fully to their duties, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in healthcare delivery.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Opubiri Ibeinmo, also addressed the interns, underscoring the need for upholding high standards of work ethics.
He explained the hospital’s reward system for exceptional performance and encouraged the interns to align themselves with the institution’s commitment to excellence.
Workplace safety took center stage during a session led by Mr. Henry Orumieyefa of the Safety Department. He educated the interns on preventing workplace accidents, the benefits of practicing safety, and demonstrated how to use a fire extinguisher effectively to manage fire emergencies.
Mrs. Jane Wokoro, Director of Nursing Services, shared practical advice on efficient duty execution. She stressed the importance of dedication and teamwork in achieving optimal patient outcomes.
Other critical sessions during the orientation included discussions on maintaining electronic medical records, quality improvement strategies, and the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
These sessions aimed to equip the interns with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate their roles effectively while enhancing the hospital’s operational standards.
